"The record of the Defenders has been a proud one so far. I am certain that whatever the future may bring, nothing will ever change that." |
The Defenders (of Earth-616) is a number of Marvel Comics superhero groups which are usually presented as a "non-team" of individualistic "outsiders," each known for following their own agendas. Spider-Man, while not a official member, is often a ally of the Defenders.
The team battles mystic and supernatural threats. They first appeared in Marvel Feature #1 (Dec, 1971)
Foundation[]
Its original incarnation, often considered the most powerful formation of superheroes in the Marvel Universe, was led by Doctor Strange and also included the Hulk, Namor, and as a kind of belated addition, the Silver Surfer. They first appeared as The Defenders in Marvel Feature #1 (December, 1971).
Spider-Man[]
In Defenders #61, (July, 1978), he became a member, however he disbanded and became a official member of Reed Richard's Future Foundation, an member of the Avengers, and a member of the New Avengers as a result, however Spider-Man often fights together with them as an ally.
