"I was going to make everything right. I even saw it, for a moment, the truth... The world that was. Restored. Renewed. It was beautiful."
— Steve Rogers

Earth-TRN641 was an alternate version of the prime reality that the sentient Cosmic Cube Kobik created where Captain America was indoctrinated into HYDRA at a young age and served as a double agent for HYDRA during World War II.

In the closing days of the war, with HYDRA's victory seeming inevitable, the Allied Forces used their newly created Cosmic Cube to alter history, so that they won the war instead of HYDRA leaving Captain America, who was saved from erasure by Kobik, as the only survivor of a history that never was.

History[]

During the Pleasant Hill debacle, the sentient Cosmic Cube known as Kobik used her reality warping powers to restore Steve Roger's lost youth. In actuality, Kobik had actually replaced him with a version of Steve from an alternate timeline that she created where Steve was proselytized into HYDRA when he was a child, so that he would become HYDRA's most loyal follower instead of their greatest enemy.

In this new alternate version of history, Steve was forced into joining HYDRA by a high-ranking HYDRA member named Elisa Sinclair when he was a child in the mid-1920s.

When the second world war broke out in Europe, HYDRA chose to ally with Nazi Germany, so that they could gain an advantage over their enemies through the manipulation of Germany's leader Adolf Hitler. When HYDRA learned that the German scientist Abraham Erskine had chosen to defect to the Allied Forces to help with the development of Project Rebirth, they sent Steve to America to infiltrate the project, so that he could assassinate Erskine before the project could be completed.

In an unforeseen turn of events, Steve was chosen to be the test subject of Project Rebirth's Super-Soldier Serum by the very man he was sent to assassinate. While it appeared to the public that Steve, who had been transformed into the patriotic hero Captain America, had become the righteous champion who would lead the Allied Forces to victory against the Axis Powers in actuality Steve was a double agent for HYDRA who used his newfound status to sabotage the Allied Forces efforts to stop the advances of HYDRA's forces.

In the final days of the war, after realizing there was no way to stop HYDRA's inevitable victory with conventional means, the Allied Forces pooled all their remaining resources into the development of a Cosmic Cube in a last ditch attempt to turn the tide of the war in their favor. They planed to use the newly created Cosmic Cube to alter reality, so that all their defeats would become victories thus winning them the war.

When HYDRA found out about the Allied Forces' plan to alter reality in their favor, they sent Steve to the ancient city of Ashomia in Japan in an attempt to thwart the their enemy's plan. After arriving, Steve was greeted by the Kraken who explained that they would use the ancient mystical energies that dwelt within the ancient city to shield Steve from the Cosmic Cube's power, so he would remember the true version of history. When Steve asked why he was chosen to be saved instead of Kraken or another high-ranking member of HYDRA, Kraken revealed that his compatriot Elisa Sinclair had mystically envisioned that Steve would return HYDRA to its rightful place as masters of the world in the new reality the Allied Forces would soon create, but only if retained his memories of the "true" history.

Before Kraken could further elaborate on Elisa's vision, a wave a cosmic energy swept over them causing everything and everyone around Steve to fade away. Before he faded away, Kraken activated the spell that would protect Steve from the alterations and tasked him with finding a way to restore the world to the way it was and fulfill Elisa's prophecy.

As the energies from both the Cube and Mystical Barrier faded, Steve found himself in a world where HYDRA lost the war and he was never a member of HYDRA. In truth, this is the way events naturally occurred, until Kobik made it so it could be believed the timeline she fabricated, in which Captain America served HYDRA, was the original. After taking his counterpart's place in the prime reality, Steve set about returning the world to the way he believed it was supposed to be by whatever means necessary.

Steve soon came to realize that the only way to truly restore the world he once knew was through the power of a Cosmic Cube as it was a Cosmic Cube that altered reality in the first place. He originally planned to persuade Kobik into restoring his reality, but was forced to alter his plan when Kobik was shattered and whose pieces were subsequently scattered around the world.

After obtaining all but one of Kobik's fragments, Steve finally had the power to rewrite the prime reality into a copy of his universe. As he changed the world around him into a continuation of his, Steve glimpsed familiar historical events would have occurred in his universe if it hadn't been erased. Before he could fully enjoy being back in the world he remebered, Steve was then tricked by Sam Wilson into bringing back Kobik, who proceeded to undo all the changes Steve had made to reality which also restored the real Captain America so he could defeat his fascist doppelganger.

Notes[]

  • In Secret Empire #10, Steve caught a glimpse of the way many historical events from the prime reality would have transpired in his timeline if it hadn't been erased, including:
    • Mutant revolutionaries Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr being executed by the state for protesting HYDRA's treatment of Mutants.
    • HYDRA being responsible for the creation of the Avengers.
    • The Fantastic Four being HYDRA astronauts with their leader was Doctor Doom instead of Mister Fantastic.
    • Peter Parker gaining his powers after being bitten by a genetically altered spider created by the HYDRA scientist Arnim Zola
