Harold "Harry" Osborn (of Earth-26496) is the son of Norman Osborn and friend of Peter Parker.
History[]
Harry was the son of Norman Osborn, ruthless businessman, inventor, gifted chemist, and founder/head of OsCorp. He is Peter Parker's best friend at Midtown high school, along with Gwen Stacy; he was a secondary target for Flash Thompson's bullying (possibly the fact that he was a rich man's son allowed him to get away with more ease than Peter). However, his father, Norman Osborn, is a cold and unloving father; Norman either contemptuously dismisses Harry, or lashes out at him in fury. As a result, Harry spends much of his life trying desperately to earn his father's approval and has always lived in his father's shadow. So Harry sneaked into the OsCorp Chemical labs and found a formula called "Globulin Green" that Norman had showed to him and his mother, which was known to enhance its user's physical attributes; however, what Harry did not know is that due to overhearing Norman and Hammerhead talking this enhancement came with a heavy price: his sanity.
Under the influence of the Globulin Green, Harry started growing distant from his true friends as he managed to join the M³ football team. One halloween, he blacked out from an overdose of green and Norman dressed him as the Goblin and broke his leg, framing his own son to redirect Spider-Man's suspicion that he was Goblin. Afterwards, Norman took him to Europe so he could relax and get over his green addiction.
When Harry returned, he started dating Gwen and she eventually wound up becoming his girlfriend. He also got a role as the Puck in a play, but he was captured by the Goblin to further the illusion, though he managed to escape and told Gwen and Peter about what happened, though this resulted in him overhearing them talking about wanting to break up. Harry went to talk to Norman, and Peter showed up as Spider-Man, figuring that either one of them could actually be the Goblin, until the Goblin attacked their meeting, allowing Peter to see the supervillain and both Osborns at the same time. Norman suggested his assistant Donald Mencken must be the Goblin, since he was the only other person who knew about the Globulin Green. At Mencken's, however, the Goblin attacked again, and Harry, who had followed with Norman in a helicopter, dive-bombed the windows to save Spider-Man from an attack of poison gas. He continued to follow as the hero and villain fought throughout New York City, during which the Goblin is finally unmasked revealing him to be Norman. Harry became suspicious of the Norman sitting beside him and discovered that he is really Chameleon. The real Norman, in fact, had been the Green Goblin the entire time and merely found Harry passed out on Globulin and framed him, even twisting his ankle to provide the limp. The battle ended with Spider-Man apparently killing Norman, to Harry's horror. Peter and Gwen attended Norman's funeral, during which Harry states his belief that Norman was addicted like him and was driven insane with led him into framed Harry. Harry blames Spider-Man for his father's "murder." He then swears vengeance. When Gwen comforted him, he claimed that she was the only thing that kept him from relapsing into his own addiction. She did not notice the way he smirked.
