"You think my armor is 'sweet?' Not exactly the adjective I'd use, but thank you. And it's no act. This is the future. I am the Iron Patriot now."
— Norman Osborn as the Iron Patriot

The Iron Patriot Armor is an Iron Man like suit created by Norman Osborn following the events of the Skull Invasion and the foundation of H.A.M.M.E.R.

History[]

Earth-616[]

When Norman made the choice to form a new team of Avengers he felt the team needed the heroic images of both Captain America and Iron Man in order to gain the public's trust. He then decided to create a battle suit painted with the colors of Captain America's costume which was formed from technology that had been taken from Tony Stark's armory at Stark Tower shortly after H.A.M.M.E.R.'s formation.

During the Siege of Asgard, Tony hacked into and shut down the Iron Patriot Armor, due to it being based off an older Iron Man suit.

During the events of Danger Zone, it was revealed that Norman had been attempting to recreate the armor in a workshop secretly located under Oscorp Tower. The armor, along with the workshop, was destroyed by Max Modell after Peter Parker destracted Roderick Kingsley and Phil Urich by "pretending" to be Spider-Man.

After the Siege of Asgard, the United States Department of Defense acquired all H.A.M.M.E.R. equipment, including the damaged Iron Patriot Armor. Changes were made in order for the armor to act like a drone, by introducing the addition of a base-level A.I., so the suit could pilot itself.

At a weapons expo, A.I.M. purposely started a fight against Daisy Johnson and Nick Fury, Jr., and used the confusion created to steal the Iron Patriot Drone. The terrorist organization managed to increase the armors' low-level A.I. considerably beyond its original parameters and freed the entire in-development fleet of drones from a factory assembly in China, using the army of sentient drones to incriminate the United States in numerous international attacks. The Hulk was sent to destroy and disable the armor drones that were going to attack Iran and he was successful.

S.H.E.I.L.D. came to the conclusion that the armors could be reasoned with. Phil Coulson asked James Rhodes to reason with the armors and, using holographic communication, S.H.I.E.L.D. hacked into the suits to talk to them, who they then recognized Rhodey as being "the Pilot", along with Tony Stark as "the Maker". Rhodey managed to get through to the armors, telling them what they were doing was wrong and unacceptable and that he could show the right way if they let him. The drones agreed and sent Rhodes a different version of Iron Patriot armor. With his new army of droids, Rhodey helped the Secret Avengers in their assault on A.I.M. Island.

Earth-1610[]

After the United States was saved from a civil war, Tony felt that a reconstruction of the country was needed, To this end, he created a new armor and dubbed himself the Iron Patriot in order to boost the morale of the American people.

After successfully combating the threat of HYDRA and the appearance of the West Coast Ultimates, Tony discarded the Iron Patriot Armor in favor of his previous armor model and returned to using the Iron Man identity.

Earth-TRN123[]

After recovering from his time as the Goblin, Norman built an Iron Man like armor in order to become a super hero and fight crime as the Iron Patriot as a way of atoning for his past aggressions.

Capabilities[]

The Iron Patriot Armor has all the features and capabilities of the Iron Man Armor except in 1 respect. Norman altered the Uni-Beam projector on the armor's chest from the simple forms Tony used (like a circle or a trapezoid) to a star. This was done to compensate for Norman's lack of technical expertise on how to operate the armor's repulsor generators efficiently. Changing the shape to a star reduced the amount of energy released from the repulsors, making them easier for Norman to control but at the same time weakening the power of the armor's Uni-Beam.

Media[]

Television[]

  • In 2012's Ultimate Spider-Man TV series, after recovering from his time as the Green Goblin, Norman creates an Iron Man like armor to fight crime as a way to erase his past.

Video Games[]

  • In 2011's Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Iron Man was given an alternate that of Norman Osborn's Iron Patriot Armor. Whenever Iron Man is going into battle, he says "I can still smell Norman Osborn's hairgel.".
  • In 2011's Marvel Super Hero Squad Online, the "Dark Iron Patriot" is a playable character.
    • The Iron Patriot armor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is also a playable character.

Trivia[]

  • It was never revealed exactly which Iron Man Armor model Norman used as the basis for the Iron Patriot Armor, but it is assumed that he based it off of the Iron Man Armor Model 29 as it was Tony's most advanced pre-Extremis armor and all Iron Man Armors after that model were designed to interface with individuals who had taken Extremis, which Norman hadn't.
