Otto Octavius (of Earth-12041), better known as Doctor Octopus, is a former employee of Norman Osborn and the creator of the Venom Symbiote.
History[]
Early Life[]
Otto was friends with Curt Connors in college. After they finished their studies, he went to work for Oscorp, but got into a terrible accident doing revolutionary work with Norman Osborn. Norman built machines that allowed him to breath through other means, but locked him away in a secret lab so no one would know about him.
Present[]
Doctor Octopus was hired by Norman to find Spider-Man's secrets and he sent the Frightful Four after him, but they all failed and Norman said he wouldn't tolerate another failure.
After a battle with an Octobot gave him a sample of Spider-Man's blood, he created the Venom Symbiote, which gave him the opportunity to create an army of Spider-enhanced super soldiers. However, Norman made him rush it which caused Venom to escape. Soon after it was destroyed, Norman asked Otto to make an enhanced prototype they couldn't beat.
He later hired Taskmaster to find out who Spider-Man really was. After he failed, Octavius went berserk and destroyed everything in his lab, but Taskmaster said he would be keeping a close eye on Spider-Man. Otto was the only one who knew that Harry Osborn was Venom, but when Norman asked him he said he had no idea. He was then given a blood sample from Harry to see what he could do with it.
After Whirlwind failed to destroy Spider-Man, Otto's job was threatened by Norman and he went after Spider-Man himself, defeating and capturing him in a hall of mirrors. He was defeated in his lab and so Norman blew it up and fired him, but Spider-Man saved his life and took one of his tentacles where Curt studied it.
He then sent an Octobot to tamper with Iron Man's armors and it attacked Norman, and also stole his database and delivered it to Otto, who created Iron Octopus armor and pitted it against Norman and Harry, but he was defeated by Iron Man and the Iron Spider. He was then rehired by Norman.
He then had the Frightful Four capture Spider-Man and harnessed his DNA, which he used to create a serum that he later injected Norman with that mutated him into the Green Goblin. Octavius stated he could control it, but Goblin forced him to the ground. Doctor Octopus survived however, and left before his lab exploded.
He was then inspired by Spider-Man to try and retrieve he sample box of animal DNA to create an army of people powered by animal DNA. Spider-Man and his team stopped him and Curt Connors took his untested Lizard DNA, transforming him and sending him berserk to find Doctor Octopus and perfect the serum to help millions. Spider-Man and Doc Ock teamed up, but Octavius later abandoned him.
Otto later captured Connors and lured Spider-Man to his rebuilt underwater lab, where he, Kraven, Rhino, Beetle, Electro and the controlled Lizard. He was eventually defeated by the Lizard once Spider-Man got him to resist his control, and he was defeated by Spider-Man yanking out all four of his arms and he was imprisoned in the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.
