Quentin Beck (of Earth-616), also known as Mysterio, is an adversary of Spider-Man and professional illusionist.
History[]
Early Life[]
Quentin Beck dreamed of movie making ever since childhood. With a battered old movie camera, Beck made monsters out of clay and made a few non-stop action films which lasted a few minutes.
In his teens, Beck got a job in a low budget monster-thriller and used the money he made to move to Hollywood to seek fame and fortune.
As the years went by, Beck became a famous stuntman and later a special effects artist, designing props and costumes. He even appeared as an alien extra in a science fiction film, which was later revealed to be an evil scheme by a criminal known as the Tinkerer.
Being Mysterio[]
Despite his success, Beck wanted more, he grew tired of working behind the scenes and wanted to be a professional actor and director. However he didn't have the face or talent to be a star and lacked the patience to be part of a production crew.
After a joke from a friend, Beck decided to use his talents to become a superhero, so using his knowledge of special effects and gadgets, he created a costume identity for himself: Mysterio, the Master of Illusion.
After seeing his soon to be enemy Spider-Man branded a menace in the newspapers, Beck knew he would gain a lot of publicity for Spidey's capture.
However Spider-Man hadn't broken the law, so Beck dressed up as him using special effects and devices to make him indistinguishable from the real hero and committed various robberies, framing the webslinger.
He then paid Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson a visit and promised to take down Spider-Man once and for all in exchange for a high fee.
His first battle with Spider-Man took place at the Brooklyn Bridge and with his special "powers" of smoke and acid, Mysterio easily defeated Spider-Man.
However during a press conference with J.J.J at the Daily Bugle, Spidey in his true identity as Peter Parker slipped a Spider tracer in the folds of Mysterio's cloak and followed him to a massive TV studio building.
During the battle, Spidey tricked Mysterio into confessing that he framed the webslinger which was recorded on a miniature tape recorder.
After destroying Mysterio's sonar device that jammed his spider sense, Spidey eventually captured Mysterio and turned him over to the authorities.
After finding out the truth about Mysterio, J.J.J was horrified and even more furious that he had been proved wrong about Spider-Man once again.

After losing his opportunity to be a superhero, Mysterio wanted revenge against the webslinger. He joined a team of super villains called the Sinister Six with Doctor Octopus, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, Sandman and Vulture. They all separated to meet Spidey in different areas of the town, they would each try to destroy the webslinger one by one until their enemy would be too exhausted to continue. Mysterio was the third in the group to fight Spidey, but he and the other villains were defeated again and sent to prison.
His many schemes after this have involved Mysterio attacking Spidey psychologically by using his special effects and illusions to drive the webslinger into a nervous breakdown.
He also rejoined the Sinister Six various times and faked his own death on several occasions.
Killing the Spider-Men[]
Some time later, Mysterio found a way to enter another universe and use an android in hopes to conquer this world. Mysterio was found by Spider-Man when his portal caused a massive beam of energy and both fought, during the battle, Mysterio damaged his inter-dimensional device, causing Spider-Man to end up in the other universe. Mysterio activated his remote controlled avatar and used it to hunt and destroy Spider-Man and the current Spider-Man of the other world. He managed to find them at the Triskelion and waged a war against them.
He escaped the situation after battling the Spider-Men and brought the android back to his world. He had temptation to return the android to the other universe and fought Spider-Man once more, as he was now trapped in that world and he managed to create a world without Spider-Man. However, he didn't expected the Spider-Man waiting for him in the other universe, and forced to defeat and incarcerate him once again in that universe, which wasn't his.
