The Shannon Kane was a villain during World War II. The wife of a brilliant inventor who created a synthetic spider-web fluid (similar to the web fluid used by Spider-Man many years later), Shannon was helpless when her husband was killed by Communists. Using specialized bracelets to fire her husband's synthetic webbing, Shannon became a hero known as the Spider-Queen. Initially she fought common street criminals, but she decided to work for a supervillain group known as the Battle-Axis, believing they were her best hope of crushing communism. This pitted her against World War II era heroes such as Captain America and the Invaders. However she soon became an archenemy of another arcahnid-themed woman, the Silver Scorpion, who would ultimately defeat the Spider-Queen.
