Yelena Belova (of Earth-616), also known as Black Widow and the later the White Widow, is an agent of the Russian spy group The Red Room.
History[]
Believing Natasha Romanoff was no longer fit to be the Black Widow, Yelena was sent to assassinate her predecessor. Natasha faked her own death and Yelena believed she was now the Black Widow. However she was soon captured on her first mission and Natasha saved her. Yelena joined a rogue faction of S.H.I.E.L.D and was badly injured in a fight with Spider-Woman. In an attempt to get revenge on Spider-Woman, Yelena merged with the robotic lifeform known as the Adaptoid and attacked the Avengers and seemingly died in the attempt. It was revealed that the Red Room had cloned Yelena and Natasha transferred Yelena's memories into the body of a clone. Given a fresh start, Yelena was recruited to free the Red Guardian from prison as the White Widow.
